Lost in the crossroads
Indiana - the crossroads of America: but what's really going on in the US heartland? There are over 1,100 people currently missing statewide. Where are they, and what will it take to bring them home?
Welcome to Lost in the Crossroads, where we present the facts on missing and unidentified persons cases all across our Hoosier state. Our goal is not to sensationalize a case, but to humanize our missing neighbors so that they can be seen as the people they are, and not just another file on someone's desk, and maybe, with the right outreach, inspire the right person to come forward with information that could be the key to closing a case.
Join us as we shine a light on Indiana's lost and missing.
Missing by the numbers
Around 600,000 people are reported missing in the United States each year, almost half of them minorities. About 95% of them are classified by law enforcement agencies as ‘runaways.’ The other 5% includes those believed to be abducted or involuntarily missing. Nearly 40% of missing persons are persons of color, yet African-Americans make up only 13% of the total US population, which indicates that minorities go missing at higher rates than their white counterparts.
There are approximately 1100 people currently reported as missing in Indiana.
About us
We are not journalists, investigators, or influencers. We aren't on a mission to denigrate the police or cast judgment on the people who have been reported missing. We aren't out to "solve" cases, although we sincerely hope to reach the right person who can help to bring a resolution to a grieving, frustrated family. We are Indiana residents who believe that every victim or missing person has value and is deserving of the public’s attention, no matter who they are or where they come from or what may have happened in their past. Everyone is someone’s loved one.
We simply want to bring further attention to the stories that hit close to home, through research, fact-checking, and providing context for various aspects of these cases.
We further hope to introduce local readers to missing persons they may not have heard of previously and which have been otherwise ignored or underreported by other media sources. With fresh eyes, maybe together we can make a difference.
